How Storms Become Our Schoolrooms

And the Spirit Our Teacher

“And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily”. (Act 16:5 KJV)  What a blessing it is to know the truth of God for oneself. This knowledge of salvation is only made known by the gracious influence and the heavenly power of the Spirit. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, they know what salvation is, where it comes from and receive the assurance that it has reached their heart.

Through this knowledge God’s people know where to find help in times of trouble. They learn where to turn in times of sorrow and adversity. And they discover to Whom they can resort in seasons of afflictions.

Storms Become Schoolrooms

Those who’ve been taught by the Spirit are not strangers to His throne of grace. They are given strength out of the fullness of Christ Himself. Their adversities only strengthen their grip on grace and they are more deeply established in their faith. Storms become their schoolrooms and the Spirit their teacher. Through them, they learn more about their weaknesses and Christ’s omnipotence. They see more of their failings and Christ’s compassions. They uncover more of their own sinfulness and Christ’s sovereign grace. They see the extent of their bankruptcy and glory of Christ’s bounty. They understand how worthy they are of eternal torment and yet read their Heavenly title more clearly.

It is in this manner in which believers are taught and become “stablished in faith”. “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Php 1:6)  The Spirit works deeply in the hearts of His people teaching them His truth experientially.
